THE PAPERPOT SYSTEM

Dibble Board for Paperpot

The Dibble Board is specifically designed to quickly create uniform depressions in the potting mix for every cell in the tray. What was a time-consuming step of making hundreds of individual holes one by one is now one simple step that only takes a few seconds.

Each dibble on the board creates a 12mm hole in the center of each cell in the paper chain pot. The board is designed to work with the Kwik Klik® Drop Seeder. After pressing the dibbler onto the tray, every hole will be lined up perfectly to receive seed from the Kwik Klik® Drop Seeder.

How to Fill a Tray and Use the Dibble Board:

• We recommend that you have some moisture in your potting mix. This step will ensure that each cell is filled to its total volume, giving your transplant more room to develop a root system. Completely dry potting mix will compress after watering, leaving the paper chain pot cell only partially full.

• Using your hands or a scoop, pour excess potting mix over the top of your stretched paper chain pot. At this point, the paper chain pots are still held in place by the spreader frame, allowing the potting mix to fill the open cells.

• Spread the mix with your hands in a circular motion, ensuring every cell is evenly filled. Lightly tamp the tray enough to ensure all cells are equally compressed with potting mix, but not so much that you distort the paper chain pots. Note: Pay careful attention to the cells around the edges of the paper chain pot, as they tend to be underfilled after filling the center cells.

• Wipe or brush away any excess mix from the surface. The edge of each cell does not need to be fully visible.

• With the spreader frame still in place, take the dibble board and line up the top left dibble with the top left metal tooth on the frame.

• Then evenly line up the dibble board's top edge with the frame's top edge. With these two reference points lined up, you can be assured all dibbles are centered above the cells.

• Once in position, firmly press down on the dibble board so all of the cells are indented to the maximum depth of each dibble. The tray is now ready to be seeded.

I suppose this piece isn’t entirely necessary if you’re on a budget, but it will pay for itself in no time. Once you get the hang of lining up the pattern, it’s a huge time saver!!

We recently purchased the dibbler and are very pleased. Last year, we used the paper pots without the dibbler and have found this year that it really is a critical part of the system. I believe I am getting better and more even germination and coupled with the drop seeder, the time savings is amazing.

Like another reviewer said, there is some sticker shock, but what you have to remember is that you aren’t paying for this tool based on what it cost to make it (though it is very well made), you are paying for the value it provides, which is immense time savings and quality starts.

I LOVE this dibbler! Fantastic to use for quickly seeding paper pot chains and for germination trays even when you are not using the paper chains. (i.e. when you are just germinating seeds like peppers and tomatoes that will be potted up)
