The metal rods slide into the sides of the compressed paper chain pots and are used to pull the chain pots apart so you can place them onto the spreader frame. The spreader rods are removed after the paper chain pots are secured on the spreader frame. Without the spreader bars, there is no way to open the paper chains.
The spreader bars are a REQUIRED component of the paper pot system. You can’t use the paper chain pots without these.

The spreader bars are well constructed and sturdy. The best feature of these spreader bars compared to the old flat insert design is that these rounded rods slide up through the paper chain seamlessly and do not get easily caught in the chain causing a rip. Going to last a long time.
