Paperpot Transplanter (HP-16) assembly

The transplanter ships in sections with every bolt already in its final location. You remove each bolt, fit the part and put the bolt back. One person can do it in under 30 minutes; two people make it faster.

Before you start

  • Check every part is there before throwing away packaging. Missing something? Email hello@moderngrower.co.
  • Unpack onto carpet or padding.
  • Two wrenches are included. A socket wrench with 10 mm and 13 mm sockets makes it faster.
Step by step

Assembly

1. Attach the carry handle (5)

  1. Remove the bolts by hand.
  2. Position the carry handle on the main body (6) and insert the bolts.
  3. Tighten with 10 mm wrenches.

2. Attach the pan (4)

  1. Remove the bolts by hand.
  2. Attach the pan to the main body and insert the bolts.
  3. Tighten with 13 mm wrenches.

3. Attach the front wheels (2)

  1. Remove the bolts by hand.
  2. Slide the front wheels onto the square tubing of the pan and insert the bolts.
  3. Tighten with 13 mm wrenches.

4. Attach the pull handle (1)

  1. Pull out the cotter pin, then the straight pin.
  2. Insert the pull handle into the front wheel assembly and pick a height from the 10 holes (waist height suits most people).
  3. Replace the straight pin and cotter pin.

The front knob sets planting depth: position 1 makes the deepest furrow, position 2 the shallowest.

5. Install the sweeps (7, 8) and rear wheels (9, 10)

  1. Remove the bolts by hand.
  2. Attach the sweeps and rear wheels and put the bolts back by hand. Don’t tighten yet.
  3. Set the sweeps: the bottom holes are slotted, so the sweeps can sit closer together (more soil over the transplants) or farther apart (less).
  4. Tighten with 10 mm wrenches.
After assembly

Moving and care

Carry the transplanter by the carry handle and pull handle. Don’t drag it: the furrow opener will dig in. Check that bolts are tight from time to time, and store it indoors so it doesn’t rust.
